With help from our patients as guest editors and journalists, we create three research newsletters a year. ‘Under the Microscope’ plays an important role in sharing research information with our young patients and their families.
We have found that many of our patients and families are interested in getting involved in research for a variety of reasons. Not only do they hope to benefit from more and better treatments in the future, they also want to help others who have the same condition as them. Crucially, we also use our newsletters to highlight the importance and value of their participation in our research.
Research nurse Claire and expert by experience (and parent of a young IBD patient) Jen work hard to make our research information engaging and fun, breaking down complex research into lively articles, pictures and activities. We encourage our readers to ask questions, make contributions, give feedback and make suggestions, and use these to make sure our newsletters are the best they can be, and most effective in engaging our young patients and families in research.
The scientific world is constantly evolving, and we want to ensure that the work we do and findings from our research is not confined to academic circles, but instead is accessible to all those who help make our work possible.
